Detroit Area Film and Television
Every Year, WDHS Students submit entries to the DAFT (Detroit Area Film Teachers) and attend the awards screening. WDHS has a rich history of videos that have won many prizes at DAFT. Last year WDHS took home 32 awards in 12 categories, including Best of Show and 3 1st place titles
Michigan Emmy Contest
In 1996, Three Dearborn High School Juniors, Elaine Chrapkiewicz and Eric (Russ) Mallord teamed up with Senior Steve Funston to win the First place award in the very prestigious Michigan Emmy contest. For their efforts they received $1,000. Taking second place in the Emmy awards, were Seniors Drew Podges, Sharief Taraman, and Sophomore Mike Sassak. Their combined efforts won them $500. In 2003, Senior Elaine Strutz also won an Emmy and scholarship $ for her creative PSA.
The Golden Cassette Award
The Golden Cassette award, sponsored by MCAI (formerly International Television Association) is a video contest open to all high school students. In past years WDHS Video Students have done very well. In the 1998 contest, students Jim Linder & Mike Duncan took gold, silver, and bronze awards.
